OTORHINOLARYNGOLOGY SERVICE
Mission:
Otorhinolaryngology is a medical-surgical specialty that addresses the full spectrum of diseases affecting the ears, nose, and sinuses of the face, mouth, larynx, pharynx, and related structures of the head and neck.
Main pathologies observed/treated in the service:
- Otology - medical and surgical treatment of deafness, ear infections, vertigo and tinnitus (tinnitus or tinnitus).
- Rhinology - medical and surgical treatment of Allergic Rhinitis, Non-allergic Rhinitis, Acute Rhinosinusitis, Chronic Rhinosinusitis with and without nasal polyps, olfactory changes, aesthetic and functional nose changes (eg Rhinoplasty and Rhinosseptoplasty).
- Throat - tonsillitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis, changes in delusions, voice, and singing; Inflammatory, infectious and neoplastic pathology of the upper aerodigestive tract.
- Head and neck - treatment of benign pathology (eg, peripheral facial palsy of Bell, benign cervical masses, etc.), diagnosis and staging of malignant tumors (eg, larynx and pharynx, oral cavity, nasal cavity), and Cosmetic and reconstructive surgery (eg otoplasty).
The ORL Service has a field of endoscopic examinations (nasofibroscopy, rigid nasal endoscopy, laryngeal endoscopy) and audiovestibulary exams.
The Service is also aimed at pre-graduate training, students of the medical course of the University of Beira Interior, and for postgraduate training, internal doctors of other specialties.

The ORL Service carries out its activity in the External Consultation / Special Examinations (sector V - floor 1), the Operation Room (floor 2) and the Internment (Surgical Specialties - floor 4).
