STOMATOLOGY SERVICE

Mission

The Stomatology Service treats diseases of the mouth, teeth, salivary glands and temporomandibular joint of patients with chronic/acute conditions or patients who are hospitalised in any of the Hospital Services.
It offers specific consultations for patients with Infectious Diseases (HIV +, hepatitis, pulmonary tuberculosis). It performs two surgeries on average, on a weekly basis, in the Central Operating Room and several surgeries in the Outpatient Surgery Room. It also collaborates with Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery of the HCCB in the Operating Room.  It is incorporated into the Outpatient Consultation Service during the week. It also allocates some of its time to Hospitalisation (Surgical specialties), which has a bed (for scheduled surgeries or patients from the Emergency Service).

Description of the Service

The service is composed of three rooms (one operating in the Fundão Hospital), with two doctors and one operating assistant.
The Imaging Service is equipped with an Orthopantomograph.

Educational Activity

The Service Director cooperates with the Faculty of Medicine of the Beira Interior University in the area of the Digestive System.

Scientific Activity

He has submitted communications at the Hospital scientific meetings and whenever there is a request. In 2011, during the commemoration of the centenary of the creation of the Stomatology Specialty, the 1^st Stomatology Lectures took place with the participation of the most respected lecturers and professionals from around the country, as well as medical students.
