ONCOLOGY SERVICE
Mission
The day hospital received its first users, in the new installations of CHCB, in 2000. This service quickly proved its importance, and has continued to grow since its opening. Its mission is to provide health care on an outpatient basis, through the various medical and surgical specialties of CHCB, emphasizing Medical Oncology, Pulmonary Oncology, Haematology-Oncology and Pain Management. In this way, diagnostic consultations, treatment decisions and follow-up appointments are made.
Pain Management
Outpatient therapy has demonstrated the influence it can exert on the patient’s quality of life, due to family/social integration and also due to economic and financial aspects. The care emphasizes the involvement of the patient and family in the therapeutic process, through personalized coaching, in order to ensure high levels of quality and humanism.
Also included are activities for teaching and training in oncology. The technical side has been constantly evolving, constantly monitoring scientific developments, the need to find new therapies or improve the effectiveness of the existing ones. Existing resources are adapted, with the goal of achieving patient and staff satisfaction.
