Specialty Residency

CHCB is currently recognised for its educational capacity and reputation in the following areas: General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Orthopaedics, Neurology, Anaesthesiology, Gastroenterology, Gynaecology/Obstetrics, Clinical Pathology, Pneumology. Distributed among these areas, CHCB has at present 40 Medical Residents undergoing specific training.

Common Year

The Common Year is an initial training process for Doctors, and includes all of the professional differentiation branches. The duration is 12 months.

CHCB now has 18 Medical Residents in Common Year training. They were admitted under the tender IM - 2012A (Common Year), published by ACSS.

It is incumbent upon the Medical Residency Board:

To provide training to all Medical residents, offering them quality medical and human training, and plan Residency development in a clear and functional way, namely:

  • The internships to be run in and outside the establishment, so as to comply with the Law in effect, pursuant to the legal regime defined in Ordinance no. Dr.-1ªsérie nº146 de 29 de Julho de 2015;
  • To follow-up together with the Service Directors and Training Advisors the operation of the specific programmes for each specialty, how each Medical resident develops his/her professional training and interpersonal relationship in the services;
  • To monitor the evaluation carefully and on a timely basis alongside the Service Directors and Training Advisors;
  • To promote and encourage research and scientific culture as part of the objectives of the programmes, involving the different specialties.

Since the Medical Residency Board believes that Medical Residents are a mirror of the Hospital for the continuous excellence of the health care provided, its purpose and concern is to guarantee and provide to Medical Residents a medical training of quality at any level, based on the fundamental principles of postgraduate education.

Human Resources

The Medical Residency Board for the different hospital areas is appointed by the Board of Directors. The Director of the Medical Residency Board at the Hospital is the most senior figure responsible for the postgraduate education of the hospital’s professional areas. At CHCB, the Director of the Medical Residency Board is currently Dr. Rosa Maria Ballesteros Ballesteros, Hospital Assistant of Internal Medicine and Member of the Board of Directors. Secretariat support to the Medical Residency Board is provided by the Technical Assistant Raquel Cameira.

Medical Residents Committee

This Committee is elected by the Medical Residents of the Hospital, and has the purpose of representing them alongside the Medical Residency bodies. It should contribute to the improvement of the educational process, promoting the exchange of information with colleagues, and organising courses, debates, clinical sessions or other educational actions together with the Medical Residency Board.
